Privacy-friendly and GDPR-compliant
Square Sense chose to partner with Terabee mainly because of GDPR-compliance aspects of Terabee’s Time-of-Flight technology and the capacities of people counting sensor solutions that it offers.
In terms of GDPR-compliance, Terabee people counting solutions Time-of-Flight technology means that no personal identifiable information (PII) is ever gathered so there is never processing of personal data. As the Terabee technology is not camera based, no images or videos are recorded.
Terabee people counters are therefore GDPR-compliant by design. Another strong point with this technology is that there is no issue to obtain consent for data processing and the risk of personal data breach is removed, as personal data is not being gathered.
Why do we use Terabee?

Square Sense’s first step has been to build an understanding of the occupancy level of each space within the building, going from common areas to private areas of each of the tenants in those buildings.
“Then we use this data, having it processed on the Square Sense platform, to come up with actions that can immediately reduce costs and increase revenue,” says Philippe Khoury. “The solution has resulted in 15% cost savings, mostly on energy costs and generally related to HVAC systems. There has also been a 75% increase in usage of common areas, mainly focused on business centers, meeting rooms, and corporate restaurant spaces.”

Moreover, the Terabee people counting algorithm filters out static objects and counts multiple people passing in both directions below the device, as they enter or leave a designated space.
